Christingle

Colin's school recently hosted a Sunday afternoon Christingle event, another British tradition that is new to us. Colin told us it would be a party, but we didn't really know what to expect. What we found was a Christian family program including a puppet show, singing, and a chance to make our own Christingles.

Christingles are symbolic crafts designed to represent Jesus as the Light of the world. The use of Christingles originated in Germany, but the events of the same name have been adopted by the Anglican Church to teach and to raise money for the Children's Society, a charity which provides help to disadvantaged or troubled children. We enjoyed the event and seeing some of Colin's classmates, and we came home with 6 of our own Christingles to enjoy.
